Rentals.ca is a rental marketplace that provides users with a map-based search experience, a smart listing process, performance tracking, and custom feed integration.
As both designer and manager of a small team, I worked very closely with stakeholders, users, and developers in every stage of the design process: from early discovery and research to solution iteration and high-fidelity design, implementation, and QA.

Pain Points
- Renters are overwhelmed with the number of variables involved in searching for a property
- In low vacancy markets, renters have a hard time keeping up with properties that are currently on the market and might be a good fit for them
- In high vacancy markets, landlords have trouble getting their properties noticed by potential tenants
Solutions
- Provide a large inventory of properties displayed over a map of the city/neighbourhood the renter is interested in. Offer filters and property information that are relevant and allow for quickly switching between properties and locations
- Allow renters to always be one click or tap away from the point of contact for a property, maximizing leads for landlords
- Alert system that notifies renters via Email when there is a new property available that matches their custom filter criteria
Pain Points
- Complex account registration and property listing processes, discouraging landlords from generating content
- Poor tracking and communication of listing results
Solutions
- A comprehensive, step-by-step listing experience that doesn’t overwhelm the user by asking too many questions at once and can be completed in under a minute while still collecting all the most relevant information for both renters and landlords
- Landlord dashboard that displays information about views, leads and conversion rates and allows the export of information via CSV file
- An automated email report system that summarizes monthly results and generates an easy-to-consume breakdown of information
